one museum

five collections

The Hanover State Museum is a classic multi-disciplinary building that brings together five very different collections under one roof:

natural history

archeology

ethnology

art

numismatics

explore something new

thanks to continuous research

In addition to collecting, preserving and communicating, researching the museum's holdings is also a central task of museum work. This happens continuously, for example in the context of provenance research, as well as selectively, as part of time-limited research projects. Interdisciplinary research creates a scientific basis for exhibitions from the extensive collections. The knowledge is made publicly accessible through lectures, courses, publications and museum educational offerings. Through conservation and restoration, the cultural heritage, which includes extremely fragile exhibits, can be presented in exhibitions. The objects are protected from decay and preserved for future generations.
