natural history society

In 1797, 27 citizens of Hanover founded a reading society, from which the Natural History Society of Hanover (NGH) emerged in 1801. It is the second oldest scientific association in Germany with around 500 members. Its aim was and is to promote and disseminate knowledge of nature in an appropriate manner, particularly through publications, excursions and lectures on topics from geology, paleontology, botany, zoology, physiology and history. The construction of the Museum of Art and Science (today the Künstlerhaus) was initiated by the NGH. She was also a founding member of the Lower Saxony State Museum in Hanover, the Zoological Garden and the Lower Saxony Local History Association.

Lower Saxony state club for prehistory

Archeology in Lower Saxony is taught and experienced in the Landesverein für Urgeschichte. About finds and monuments of prehistory and early history you can learn more and gain exciting knowledge. Scientists inform in lectures on current research in archeology. You can become active in the Landesverein yourself, in working groups and through volunteer work, for example during excavations. Study trips and seminars provide a special insight into the past. The association promotes archaeological research in Lower Saxony and works closely with the Department of Archeology of the Lower Saxony State Museum Hannover. We look forward to all the curious.

ethnological society hannover

The Ethnological Society Hannover e. V. (EGH) was founded in 1967 as a circle of friends of the ethnology department of the Lower Saxony State Museum in Hanover. It supports the museum's ethnological projects, designs its own lecture programs and provides financial resources for the purchase of ethnographic objects. The society is committed to an understanding of ethnology. It not only refers to non-European cultures, but also to migratory movements and intercultural integration. The club's goals are against xenophobia and advocate active cooperation with foreign cultures. The EGH also takes part in the discussion about new forms of presentation in ethnological exhibitions.
