Romans and Germans – trade and military

tour + workshop (optional)

Finds from Hedemünden - so far the only large Roman camp in Lower Saxony - show the beginning of contact between the Romans and Germanic peoples in what is now Lower Saxony. Roman soldiers and traders established contact with the Germanic peoples living here in the first four centuries. Through this contact, society in the so-called “Free Germania” changed; Germans served as soldiers in the Roman army and the better-off Germans supplied themselves with Roman imports.

In order to deepen the topic, one of the following workshops, thematically appropriate to the tour, can be booked:

  • Globi and Moretum – Roman cooking
  • Alea jacta est - build and play Roman games
  • With stilus and papyrus – Roman writing course

Tour: 60 minutes | Workshop: 60 minutes Guided tour: 40 € | Workshop: 40 € Sec I 5th and 6th grade in class
