Niedersächsische Moore as sources and sinks for greenhouse gases

In marshes, large amounts of carbon have been stored and thus deprived of atmosphere since the Holocene. Moor drainage and utilization releases CO2 as a greenhouse gas. Peat mineralization and fertilization lead to the release of climate-relevant laughing gas. In cooperation with farmers, possibilities for reducing emissions should be developed.
