Globe

a trip to the south

28.10.2022 – 27.8.2023

The scent of lemons, magical light, enchanted landscapes: Italy, a place of longing! Long before mass tourism made travel the norm, aristocrats, rich commoners and many artists made the pilgrimage south.

Driven by artistic curiosity, they are looking for inspiration, freedom and a new attitude towards life. In the center of European art, you can admire antique masterpieces and walk in the footsteps of the old masters. Some of the souvenirs of this »Grand Tour« are rich art collections - an attempt to preserve the »dolce vita« at home.

The exhibition follows the travelers to the land of their dreams - but also shows the Italian view of their own homeland. Piranesi, Ahlborn, Signac or Slevogt: they all captured the landscape, light and people of Italy in their own unique way and thus created personal visions of their dream destination. The "Journey to the South" takes the viewer to a picturesque Italy of the past, shaped by the gaze of its admirers.

There is something exciting about the special exhibition mediation program.

Private group tours can be booked individually via the info (info@landesmuseum-hannover.de | 0511-9807686) can be booked.
