German drawings of the 19. century

25.3. to 24.6.2018

The German art of 19. For some time now, the century has seen a great boom - along with new discoveries on the art market, in museums and at universities. The exhibition tells the exciting story of drawing between romance and realism.

Since the classicism of 1800, hand drawing has become the leading artistic means of expression. A new appetite for drawing new hitherto unknown topics came to life, many artists invented new techniques, and they discussed the fundamental importance of drawing in their work as never before. 50 selected masterpieces from the Kupferstichkabinett of the Landesmuseum Hannover illustrated the versatility of drawing between romance and realism. It presented a significant, hitherto almost undiscovered treasure and at the same time a leading art genre of the 19. Century.

The exhibition took place in cooperation with the Georg-August University in Göttingen.
